THE LAST SLOVENIAN COOKBOOK PRINTED DURING THE AUTHOR’S LIFETIME

This a reprint of the most important and the most overlooked Slovenian cookbook: the 8th edition of The Slovenian Cookbook by Felicita Kalinšek. It was first published in 1935 and was the last edition printed during the author’s lifetime – she died two years later. This is the last unedited edition, as the later editions were published under the same name, but were heavily edited (recipes were added, removed or completely changed) into different cookbooks by many authors. This brings us to the question: Do the later editions have anything in common with Miss Kalinšek and her work? We believe not.
FELICITA KALINŠEK IS A TRADEAMARK NAME THAT SOLD OVER 250.000 COPIES OF COOKBOOKS

CAN A HEAVILY EDITED SHAKESPEARE STILL BE CONSIDERED SHAKESPEARE?

Would Shakespeare’s opus, heavily edited by a handful of different authors every few years, still be recognizable as his work?

THE ORIGINAL PRINT OF THIS EDITION CANNOT BE FOUND IN THE NATIONAL AND UNIVERSITY LIBRARY

CULTURAL AND CULINARY HERITAGE

PURCHASE TODAY FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS
You may have a shelf full of different cookbooks at home, maybe even an edition of the Slovenian Cookbook. You surely have favorite dishes and recipes you cook for yourself and your family. You might believe you don’t need this book. But think about this: today, you have the possibility to purchase a reprint of a 85 years old book, unavailable in the National and university library; a book with so many recipes you will surely find many new dishes you will love; a book your descendants will read in the next century and enjoy the language and the unusual ingredients and recipes. They might be tempted to try them out, inviting their family and friends for a taste of the Slovenian cultural heritage – and the thought of that is simply priceless.

A SORELY NEEDED REPRINT

These are the reasons why we decided to publish a reprint. This edition includes a completely different outlook on the science of cooking, food serving rules, meal plans for every day of the week and every holiday, as well as over 2700 authentic recipes and a humorous, rich language from when they still said sunne instead of sun. The format of the reprint is identical to the original and all recipes can be found on the original pages - we even used the same index. All of the small typos were preserved and can be found throughout the book, including one on the first page. The only additions are two blank pages (demanded by law) and three beautiful bookmarks in the colors of the Slovenian national flag.

SLOVENIA – EUROPEAN GASTRONOMY REGION 2021

IN HOMAGE TO ALL COOKS
Slovenia is the first European country to be named European Gastronomy Region. The title was bestowed for the year 2021 and therefore the reprint of the 8th edition of the Slovenian Cookbook is available in time to be either gifted in the end-of-the-year festivities or to help you slow-cook throughout the next year in homage to all cooks, including Felicita Kalinšek.

FOOD IS A PART OF CULTURAL HERITAGE

The Slovenian Cookbook was important for national consciousness and identification, with the 8th edition contributing the most. Even the national consciousness goes through the stomach!
